From the moment I arrived, it was clear this wedding was going to be full of personality. Courtney and Stephen didn’t want a cookie-cutter venue, they wanted a celebration that felt like them. So they brought the wedding home, literally, turning their own backyard into the perfect setting for a garden-style celebration.
Wildflowers were tucked into the trees throughout the space, adding pops of color against the green backdrop of an Alaska summer. Every detail, from the florals to the beverages, reflected the couple’s love of color and their easy, garden-inspired style. It’s proof that some of the most beautiful Fairbanks weddings happen in the most personal places.

If there’s one thing that defined this wedding, it was the flowers and the smiles. Wildflowers were woven into the trees and scattered throughout the decor, giving the whole event a soft, whimsical, garden feel. The color palette was bold and joyful, matching the personalities of Courtney and Stephen perfectly. For anyone planning a summer wedding in Fairbanks, this celebration is the perfect example of how much life and character a backyard setting can reflect.

A wedding is nothing without the people who show up for it, Courtney and Stephen’s backyard was packed with friends and family who came ready to celebrate. The energy throughout the day was warm and joyful. There were toasts, plenty of laughter, and a dance floor that stayed full well into the evening.
Watching a couple’s favorite people let loose and dance under the Fairbanks summer sky is one of my favorite parts of photographing weddings here. There’s a lightness to a backyard celebration that’s hard to replicate anywhere else, and this wedding had it in barrel fulls. Cheers, shots, and selfies were scattered throughout the night as the music went on.

Alaska summers are short but spectacular, and a backyard wedding in July takes full advantage of that. With nearly endless daylight, couples get golden light for hours, relaxed timelines, and the chance to celebrate somewhere that already means something to them. Courtney and Stephen’s wedding captured all of that: a relaxed, colorful, garden-inspired day surrounded by the people they love most.
If you’re dreaming of a backyard wedding of your own here in Fairbanks, this is the kind of day that shows just how beautiful, personal, and full of character it can be.
