If you’re dreaming of a wedding day that feels intentional and deeply personal, eloping may be exactly what you’re looking for. As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the honor of witnessing all kinds of celebrations—and time and time again, elopements stand out as some of the most meaningful experiences couples can share.
If you’re on the fence about skipping a traditional wedding and thinking to yourself “are elopements for me?” then here are seven reasons why eloping might be the perfect fit for you.

At its core, marriage is about the commitment between two people—not seating charts, centerpieces, or distant relatives you haven’t seen in years.
Eloping strips away distractions and puts the spotlight back where it belongs: your love story and your commitment to each other.
Eloping together just naturally feels more intimate without the crowds, a minute by minute wedding day schedule, or outside pressures. It will naturally create a space for you to be fully present, and that always results in more powerful photographs.

Traditional weddings often come with a hefty price tag. Eloping gives you the freedom to prioritize experiences over expectations.
Many couples choose to invest in:
Rather than spreading your budget thin, eloping lets you focus on what truly matters to you and going all in on it. Eloping doesn’t mean “cheap” — it means intentional spending.

One of the biggest advantages of eloping is location freedom. Elopements open the door to stunning locations and experiences. Your ceremony location can be on a cliff in Iceland, a quiet tropical beach at sunrise, or on a mountain trail you love. Couples can elope almost anywhere! National parks, private estates, beaches and coastlines, city rooftops, the list of location possibilities is long.
Elopements allow you to choose a place that really reflects who you are as individuals and as a couple. You can trade chapel walls for mountain peaks and dark ceilings for tree canopies or glacier walls and sunshine.
Your wedding day can double as your ceremony and the start of your honeymoon. With a little planning you can create a once-in-a-lifetime experience all wrapped up in one trip. Choose a destination, get yourself on the plane or in the car, and just go for it!

Planning a big wedding can be overwhelming. Guest lists, family dynamics, and rigid schedules often add unnecessary stress and leave you feeling emotionally drained rather than energized and excited. Couples often tell me their elopement day felt calm, joyful, and surprisingly emotional—in the best way. There tends to be fewer logistics and if something is late, having the flexibility to change plans and move things around is a huge stress reliever. You can think more about what you want to do and less about what everyone else would want to do.

When you elope, there are no rules. You can write personal vows, wear something non-traditional, or plan a day that looks nothing like a “typical” wedding. You can create your own timeline. If you want to have a ceremony at sunrise, sunset, or mid-afternoon, say ” I do” over there on the mountain top, and go look over the other side next, you 100% can!! The day is reserved for you and you have the flexibility to spend as much time exploring and spending time together as you want. If you’re considering an intimate wedding experience, my elopement photography services are designed to help you plan a day that feels effortless and fun.

Not everyone wants to share their most emotional moments with a large audience. Eloping is ideal for couples who value privacy and intimacy. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have guests present or anything like that. If you would like your closest friends or family members to be there to celebrate with you then by all means, let’s make that happen. An idea is instead of buying 200 wedding favors that are quickly forgotten, schedule a tasting tour at a winery, or rent a large Air-bnb for the weekend and let everyone have a blast together, or rent a boat and take the party out on the water.
There are many ways to spend quality time with your people that will build lasting memories.

Elopements create memories that last far beyond a single ceremony—they become part of your shared story. Start planning on where you want to go and how you want to spend that time together. The beauty of it being an experience over just an event is that it sticks in your mind so much more because those feelings lasted the whole day, not just to the end of the ceremony.

Eloping isn’t about skipping a wedding—it’s about intentionally creating one that feels right for you. If you value connection, freedom, and meaningful experiences, eloping may be the perfect way to begin your journey together.
And as a photographer, my role is to help you plan a day that feels true to you and to document it in a beautiful and meaningful way.
